The 180r is an engine revision for the US market where we felt that we need a stronger torque curve due to the market dynmaics of the USA. Published performance figures are normalised across the variety of engine specs, but American 180 FWD cars should perform a little better than 225bhp which has the f45r spec engine for all markets.
Hans

Staggering news for those waiting for the 222Q ... I felt as though the numbers on the 180FWD were a bit conservative based on my 2000 miles with it. 7.4 seconds to 60 (with the AC on) seemed slow.

Are you saying that ALL the 180HP engines in the USA TTs are the so called "r" version? Out- performs the 225HP you say? I'd like a little more detailed explaination of that!
More info, PLEASE!
My 180(r?)Q is getting built in August.
I did not think that I could stand the lonnng wait for the 225Q (this is already tough enough!). However, I still feel that 180 H.P. is totally sufficient to move this car in a true, "sporting" manner. But, if my TT end up being a bit quicker that initially anticipated, well...
No argument here! THANKS, AUDI!!!
...does anyone have curb weight numbers for the 180 and 225? Unless I'm mistaken, and all other efficiencies being equal, the only way the 180 can be faster than the 225 is if the 225 weighs in at more than 225/180 times the curb weight of the 180, no? I think I saw a power/weight here of 15hp/lb for the 180, so does anyone know the 225 number?

I thought that the 225 was only 1 lb per hp lighter.
You're right--the 225Q is only 1lb/hp lighter. Most of its 0-60 improvement comes from the extra traction and the different gearing in the 6-speed box. Theoretically that means the FWD can be faster (assuming equal traction--perhaps as in passing from 40-75mph), with nominal improvements...
My question: Revised torque curve could mean more power. Does that mean 190, maybe? 200? :]

Are we all checking this forum, like, 864 times per day? Does this get any better once one has taken delivery?
