I talked to the sales manager at a local dealer (Rockville Porsche/Audi) and was told not to expect the Quattro version until next year. This was also confirmed from Auditalk@vw.com. I am number one on the waiting list for a TT at this dealer, but really want(ed) to wait for the Quattro. If it will be whole year, then I may go FWD. Oh well.

Are you referring to the 180BHP version or the 225BHP in Quattro? I am still hearing an Late summer availability the 180BHPQ.
It would be a shame to skip the quattro option since this is truly Audi's hallmark and is a clear advantage over other cars in this class. No torque steer....

Well, the 1.8 Quattro version will be out in the fall. But, this will be the 1.8, if you want the 6 that will be next year.
Thanks,
Jim
Bellavia Audi - West New York, NJ (201) 758 - 1600

Went to my dealership today and heard the same thing. Not to expect the 180hpQ, till 2000. Don't know how much weight to put on that?

According "Jim H" from his 1-22-99 Forum posting(s), Audi of America (AoA) will determine actual pricing and deliveries of TT's next week in Maui (Feb 8 - ?). Thus I suspect Audi of America will prepare a US press release around mid-Febuary with the REAL info, so we can all stop worrying and speculating about prices and availabiliy/time tables of US bound TT's; 180 FWD/180 hp quattro/225hp qauttro/180 & 225 hp roadster, etc. Stay tuned.

The 6-cyl version of the TT. That is another stage of the release. The final stage will be the TTS .

As far as I was aware every TT in the near future
0-18 months is based on the 4 cylinder 1.8 T 20 valve engine ???????

I have a TTS on order (#2 in Cincinnati). With so few details announced about the 225 hp version I have been hoping it might be the VW VR6 with single turbo. My dealer has told me they expect it will be a twin turbo 1.8 4. Either way, it should be a real blast with Quattro. While I would be thrilled to learn that it will come with the 6, what I really want is Tiptronic. Has anyone heard any rumors about that option. I currently have an 88 Porsche Carrara and love the car but am getting real tired of shifting all those gears. If you doubt my logic, go test drive a Tip. They're GREAT.

From what I've read and heard, there will be torque in the front drive TT because of the transverse engine. Just like the VW hotties have torque steer.

The 225hp version is the same engine as in the 180hp, but has twin intercoolers and higher boost to add the extra 45 hp.
