The new owner of my old car emailed me....he said:

- got a flat, couldn't take the wheel off
- Tow truck driver managed to tear the front end apart while putting it up/down off the flat bed
- fuel smell in the cabin

He's not a mechanic type, lives in my town, so I told him to come over last night. Gabor told me to cut the fittings and put new fuel lines in....did that, much better repair.

I actually found that the epoxy had held the whole time, it was actually the other end of the hose that was leaking.....and leaking terribly....it was loose as a goose on the connection to the hard line. Bad design IMO.

So here are a few pictures, I have updated the procedure to include everything.

An elegant fix. It must have brought back lots of memories to see (and wrench on) your old ride again.

Rehan is a super nice guy, but not a car mechanic. I told him where to bring the car for repair. I did this repair for free, took me 2 hours by the time we went to the store and everything. He said everything has worked perfectly except this.

I told him to change the brake pads, as I told him that when he bought the car. He didn't want to pay the extra money for me to do it with the parts I had on hand.

I bet the pistons are so far out that somebody will tell him there is caliper work to be done.

The instrument cluster (blue dials with red DIS) is just sooooo cool. Still like it better than my facelift S8 instrument cluster. The car is still very cool.

He is a chiropractor and gave me a water pillow thing as a gift. Very nice gesture.

Uh-oh. And I was just about to ask/hope that he was taking good care of it.

Including changing the oil. I even added a quart of oil to it for him last night.

He sold his 97 A8 in two days on craigslist for $7,000 with 89K miles. He bought mine for $8,500 so he got a nice upgrade for $1,500.

After riding in my car last night, he wants a S8. I had it in "S" all the time!!

I've been using S more than normal. To follow up with a previous post (not certain who posted it), using S has cut down on low speed driveline clunking ... not that that's why I use it. :)) Love the way it keeps the engine ready for war. In any event, I hope he does a little better taking care of your old '97. you put so much work into it and it's such a nice car.

Allegedly, you are not supposed to use worm gear hose clamps on a high pressure fuel injection line, rather you are supposed to use fuel injection line clamps like so.

People who do not want to change brake pads or oil do not deserve a car even more an AUDI.
I vote that they should walk.
Personally I don't want to share the road with them.
