View Full Version : Too much oil added

Hi all,

I've made a stupid thing: it did seem for my new V6 30V (2000 kms, no oil change yet) that the oil level was near the min mark, I added but too much - now is over that arrow mark on the upper yellow/orange plastic marker on dipstick (it does not cover completely the upper plastic marker). I don't want to change the oil too early but I don't want also to get the catalytic converter damaged. Do you thing that I can use the car with this oil? It did never have any leak, I was just thinking that the engine, being new, may consume oil... It may be possible to get out some of this extra oil or it would be better just to wait and use it like this (considering that the oil wouldn't get to the catalytic converter...)?

Thanks a lot,
Marius

It can raise the pressure on the seals, possibly causing a leak, I also had difficulties with hesitation on my 1.8T when the dealer overfilled it. As to how to get it out you can get a pump from the auto parts store. They have an expensive electric pump designed for doing oil changes, but you can also use the cheap (~$5) hand operated pump that they sell for pumping oil from the bottle. Just reverse the hoses (one long and one short) so that the long hose is on the pump input( the end that normally goes in the bottle), then stick the long hose down the dipstick tube, and pump it out. Put the short hose in some sort of container to collect the oil.

Done! Thanks for your advice, Dave!

Actually it was impossible to find such a pump (to have a tube to fit into the dipstick tube) so I used a simple plastic tube (with the container to collect the oil on the ground so the oil did come by itself once the tube was filled).
