I finally did it, and it took a basketball pole to fall on the roof of the car to get me going. The roof was repaired via my comprehensive, and while in the shop I had them re-spray the rear bumper shell which was painted "on the car" by the previous owner. Why would he do that? The bumper bolt was seized in the fitting! It was tough, but the shop managed to get it out. They matched 10 year old pearl white perfectly and the car now looks new again (almost new). I celebrated by taking her on a trip with my daughter to visit a college 300 miles away-- what a nice trip it was. Once in awhile I can forget whatever it is that needs attention and just drive it to enjoy it. These cars are super-- when everything is working!
