Hi again.

After my EPC light coming on etc, the car ran fine today around town. However, on the way home this eveing the oil level warning light can on. So I checked the oil again and it was close to the bottom mark. So i topped it right up to the top mark, but the light did not go out. It is still on after driving 5 miles.

My question is? Is there an oil level sensor on the gearbox or distribution box, or rear diff? If so does this may explain the problems of yesterday?

Any input appreciated!

Thanks

1. Low oil level

2. Low oil pressure.....

This could be your problem.....I know Sven_S8 had a similar problem and his engine rebuilt on his 00 S8....you might find it here or I know the story is on tyresmoke.net....

In which case pressure is not a problem.

it could be the oil pump, a really dirty filter, or the oil might have aeriated and have foaming in the pan, causing the oil being hard to pick up, giving you the check oil indicator. I had this situation when I was driving through the mountains and I found out later that my oil level was slightly high. The oil frothed, and I kept adding oil because I thought I was burning it badly. It got to the point where my car was shooting black smoke out the tail pipe. Stupidly, I never checked the oil level.

Thanks for the input.

As my S8 is a 2002, it has seperate oil level and pressure warnings, so I guess there must also be seperate sensors.

Either I have one of the causes that you have suggested, or a faulty sensor or a connection problem?

As this happened whilst I was towing I do wonder if it is just an oil problem and as the car was last serviced 7,000 miles ago, perhaps the best course of action would be to have an oil change. Then see if the light goes out.

Is there a better oil to have in the engine for towing? Any oil experts out there?

Thanks again
