Recently I posted that my service indicator light was flashing "OIL," and I asked if there was a way to turn it off permanently without going back to the dealer. I checked the archives and saw a couple of suggestions on how the car owner could turn it off, but neither of the tricks worked.

Then a couple of people responded and said to have my dealer set the computer to not turn on the OIL light until 99,000 miles.

Well, I went to the dealer today and he said this cannot be done. He said the longest service interval they can set is 7,500 miles, and that even if he could set it to 99,000 miles, it would start flashing again in six months.

Anyway, I just thought I'd let people know in case you were faced with the same situation.

Meanwhile, in the event any of you have indeed been able to have your service indicator light put to sleep, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.
