I've said this before, but I have loved this car from afar for a long time, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I should be able to get an A4 within the next four months. Query? What is the latest word on the next generation A4, I mean when can we realistically expect to see it in the US. I've read the FOB and & and all the upcoming info in all the auto mags, but truth be told I think the information here and @ Vortex is much better than R&T, Automobile or EC. EC actually said that the up coming 3.7l v8 A6 would have four valves per and 230hp. My problem is that even though I love this car, I hate the thought of buying a new car right before the next generation is available. If the next generation A4 will be available in late '99 as a '00 model then I would have to wait, however, if the next generation A4 will not reach the US untill mid to late 2000 then look for me in a new or used (unmodified - I want to do that myself) 1.8T A4 by May. Any reliable info would be greatly appriciated(sp)!!!
Hi PJ:
This source was from the December issue of HK's Car and Driver magazine, it should be as reliable as its American edition.
The 2nd generation A4 will be available in late 00 to early 01 as a 01 model year designation. European markets, as usual will get the vehicle 1/2 to a year earlier than us. This is good because Audi will solves the first production year's teething pains before they make it into our shores. As usual, they will have a sedan and Avant version. By the next generation, Audi will matches BMW and Mercedes's coming 2nd generation C-class by offering coupe and convertilble versions of the A4. Engine choices will be the usual 1.6, 1.8 normally aspirated, 180 hp 1.8T, 2.4, 2.8, 2.7 bit-turbo on the S4 and rumors predicted Audi will put the V8 into the A4's bonnet in order to competes with C43 AMG Mercedes and "rumored" E46 M3 V8 which will be available in less than 2 years. Before this major makeover, Audi will introduces the 99.5 rminor revised version of the A4 with new stereo, new head airbags, mew headlights and slight suspension upgrades which you can see it in the VWVORTEX.COM feature section. If you really love the current looks and feels of this generation A4, get it and enjoy it. You won't regard it because its the best vehicle I have ever owned.
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQM
99 JETTA GLS 2.0
