Could someone advise me of the original wheel diameter and width and tyre diameter and profile please? I currently have 18" with 235/40s and the ride is rubbish. I know they're not suitable as the spare is a 16" x 7" with 225/60 tyre. I am guessing that the correct dimensions are:
Wheel 17" x 7.5"
Tyre 225/55
Any advice is much appreciated

Instead of the A6's 235/40-18, try the A8's 245/45-18. Your car will also look much better with the smaller wheel gap.

A8/S8 Tire Options

I replaced the standard alloys (battered) alloys for 18" RS4 replicas which the not so good company fitted with 235/40s. After my wife has scratched the rims to bits (alright and me) and a pothole has seen to a tyre (not surprising with such a low profile for Irish "roads") I have decided to replace rims and tyres again but with correct size this time. Will be nice to have a correctish speedo as well. Going for 17" x 7.5" with 225/55s. (Got a good deal on RS6 replicas, so will see what they look like)
Thanks for confirmation of sizes.
Were these cars fitted with a 16" spare and 17" wheels? (with tyres made up to fit)

the issue is that most replica wheels are cheap and you get what you pay for and they will always get messed up by pot holes. the orignal size wheel and tire is 16x7 225/60 tire. that will at least keep the rims from getting banged up too bad. but again it depends on how big those irish pot holes are.. NY pot holes SUX too and can swallow cars. good luck

I know they might look narrow, but the roads here are third world and the speed limits are strictly enforced, so I'm going for comfort before grip. Also, I needed to match the spare. Thanks again. great forum.
