Went to a family friends 15,000 acre ranch last weekend to ride ATV's, shoot guns, fish and drink booze:).

Took us about 40 minutes to drive in to where the houses are...property is a working cattle ranch which he moves about 500 head of cattle through. He has the place more for relaxation and tax write off then profit.....rough:).

My Father in Law and Brother in Law were in their Suburban and Expedition. Came to the first stream and I stopped to get out to check the water level...Father in Law leans out his window and says "I thought Audis could go anywhere?". My response,"try to keep up old man". Got back in and went across...had about 1/2 a dozen streams to drive through, which we did with no problem and only got out on the first one. End result, car worked flawless with the exception of low clearance on a few good size rocks.....which made a racket as we went over them...but did no damage.

Photos were taken by my father in law on the way out.

What kind of tires do you have on the S8? I was thinking about selling my S8 and getting a truck to go through about the same type of terrain pictured by you. If the S8 can do it without damage, that takes care of the issue for me.

If I were to do it on a regular basis I would go with a good mud and snow rated tire in a smaller width maybe 235 and a higher sidewall for a little extra flex. The short sidewall of the 255 is probably not the best so look at a taller one.

Maybe something like this Goodyear Egale RS or maybe the BF Goodrich g-force T/A (a bit less expensive)...I hope this helps.

Also, the only issue for me would be ground clearance..if the road has gravel on it then you should be fine......if there are 8" to 10" or larger diameter rock all over the road then I would maybe look at a different car or truck....allroad comes to mind as you can raise and lower the car on the fly...pretty cool. There were some good size rocks and areas that were not very smooth but the car did just fine and I would have no problem doing it again.

...gloriously wondrous - much more rooster in me mind.

That one's pretty 'meh' on the Rooster-Scale - but still pretty darn funny IMO.

Love it.

Save-as'd again - last time lost in a hard drive nuke, d'oh. Thanks again Beefer.
