I along with AUDIBOY installed my APR 1.0 bar ecu on Friday night. Here are the specs on the car used...

1999.9 1.8t q-tip
all-weather
sunroof
18x7.5 Fittipaldi Argus w/ 225/40 Dunlop W10

Installation was a breeze!! The 5th bolt came right out if you loosen the plastic that surrounds the wipers. AUDIBOY can atest to this. The filter required a little more effort but again, was pretty easy to do.

We will be posting some pictures of the install along with numbers we recorded via the G-Tech soon (hopefully by the end of the week, right AUDIBOY??). The numbers were recorded along the same strip of road and the outside temperature was pretty stable, between 63-65 degrees. Because the car is tiptronic, shifting was done at 5600 rpm throughout the testing. A total of 4 runs were done and we will be posting these results. The following testing was done...

1. Car is bone stock.
2. Car with ONLY APR 1.0 bar ecu installed.
3. Car with ONLY K & N filter installed.
4. Car with BOTH APR 1.0 bar ecu and K & N filter installed.

We hope that this testing will be able to give everyone an idea of what type of gain you can expect given the installation of independent components. We will be doing further testing once my APR/Borla exhaust comes in and again when my KONI threaded adjustable suspension arrives from Holland (Me and AUDIBOY just can not wait cuz AUDIBOY got the same set-up!!)

More to come...so stay tuned...

We almost have all readings except the last one with K&N and APR installed. The 1.8T was just getting too hot or at least that what we felt after doing an average run of 4 times per measurement. But if it gets cooler tonight, or tomorrow, expect to see numbers the next day. Allan, get those pic in.

I realize the Audi uses a panel filter, but I'm not sure that it will pick up any less debris.

On my former car I did notice a significant improvement initially after replacing the factory airbox with a cone (there was plenty of cool air available), but after 9-10K miles I always realized the performance had dropped significantly. A cleaning of the cone always restored performance (actually I had 2 cones, which I rotated in order to minimize downtime).

The air cleaner is such a hassle to get to in the A4, that even if I bought a second panel it would be simply too much hassle to go through every 10K miles for such a small (if any) increase in performance. Just my 2¢.

I'd offer to sell the K&N panel I got with my APR chip upgrade very cheaply, but something tells me I have just completely obliterated my market... :)

A4Allan's stock air filter was practically new, so replacing with a K&N panel, did not give us significant gains, in fact our best 0-60 and 1/4 mile run improved by 0.1 sec (without chip). With chip, maybe a bit more. Of course, that can be attributed to the tiptronic not shifting consistently to some extent. But everything counts and if APR sells the system this way, I'll take it. Plus, it saves money down the road by just cleaning the K&N as opposed to buying a new filter every 15k.
