View Full Version : Lower grill pieces on my S8 are missing (stolen?)

I came out of work to my S8 yesterday and found the two lower grill pieces (the ones that surround the foglights) missing. Actually, I noticed that the first one (driver's side) was missing the day before yesterday, and I thought it must have shaken out while driving on a gravel road or something. But then yesterday the other one was gone and I figured it had to be more than a coincidence. I always park in the same place at work, and it's when I'm walking out of work toward the car (from the front) that I notice the grill pieces missing.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a big market for S8 lower grill pieces? Is someone planning on taking my (pitted and road-beaten) foglamps?

The missing grill pieces aren't really the worst part...they're probably not real expensive or difficult to replace. The worst part is that it looks like there are a couple of broken-off tabs on the grill surround in the bumper. Here's a photo showing where the broken off pieces of plastic are:

Here's a zoomed-in pic of the side tab:

Here's a zoomed-in pic of the top tab:

Now here's my question:

Does anyone know if those are indeed broken-off tabs, which were previously used to hold on the grill pieces? Or are they just extra bits of broken-looking plastic that everyone has on their bumper? If they're broken tabs, does that mean I'll need to get a new lower bumper, as well, in order to fix my car?

Mean people suck

It dosent fit my 97 but i found one on Ocean Ave by the beach last year. If you want i can see if i can find it in my garage and just give me shipping. My friends made fun of me because i spotted this thing from like 250 feet away..

out. Even a fairly small pot hole and I've lost em. I just bought a new one last week in fact $109 out the door from the stealer. The stealer recommended screwing them in to avoid loss, just would hate to lose access to the tow hook if one didn't have a screwdriver with them. As far as the broken looking pieces in your picture I'm not sure on that I can take a peek at mine this weekend.

Since there are two parts on each side (and the fog surround doesn't come out that easy if you want it to). The grille fixture is/looks a bit pants, but they never fell out here (knock wood).

And what are the chances both of them disappearing?

Looks like the clips are broken, so to me it seems like someone yanked them out with force.

argued with me as well, but when he pulled the part it was in fact one piece.

Sorry to hear of the theft. Hope they just fell off rather than stolen...

From Mr. Dr's pic it looks like you can see the slot where the fog surround goes, with a flexible bit of plastic (upper corner). That's what's kinda hard to get out... (If you want it to)

I don't know whether this is the same on the one piece surrounds?

to check on the broken pieces, please post. That's the part I'm most concerned about. Well, that and the fact that if somebody took them, there's still a chance that the same somebody will take the replacement pieces.

I was not that pleased with the completeness of information present in a Bentley I had last year.

...one of the wet surface braking exercises at the Mid-Ohio event this year(!). Luckily the instructor saw it and picked it up for me.

The guys that fixed the front part of my car after my accident must not have put it back in snug enough. The middle grille came out 75% after the first 3 minutes of driving 25 mph around the block. Putting in the middle grille requires a flash light and a lot of care.

My passenger side foglight grill was missing this morning. I am guessing it fell out. Anyone have a suggestion for where to get a replacement?

stealer retail about $75 each---I bot one from them for $59--nice parts guy.
Then about $65 in paint supplies from paint scratch.com and now good to go
Mine dropped out somehow on a trip from NYC to StLouis in July---they are susceptible to concrete thingie bumps in parking lots--though I didn't do that--S8's are pretty low slung.

What about a couple of shots of silicone in strategic places?

Yep, noticed both mine missing on my S8 at the same time, I figured someone stole them, can't imagine why though..

just weird that they would both fall off at the same time

I am missing one, after all popped out indiscrimnately. I wish someone would measure up a mesh kit for us guys. I saw it on Scarface's car here on AW.

Mine also popped out when the bumper stuck up on a curb in a parking lot...
