I know the manufacturer specs say tow nothing over 2,000 pounds or so. Anyone have any experience towing a bost on a semi-regular basis? I'm thinking about picking up a 17' Boston Whaler (or equivalent) and am worried what long-distance towing might do to the drivetrain. Part of the towing would be through the Appalachians -- foothills to those of you out west, but mountains, nonetheless.

Any advice/anecdotes would be helpful.

We tow a 15 1/2 foot racing dinghy. However, the boat is only 381 lbs and the trailer probably isn't more than 100 or so. We've had no problems whatsoever with out 1.8T QTS. We can hardly tell the boat's back there.

BTW, we're using a Dinan reciever hitch.

1500 is my guess for a boat and trailer that size. For that I think you're probably fine though you might want brakes on the trailer. I think the 2000# rating is a bit conservative.

I don't know if you have a hitch yet but www.hitch-web.com sells them for the A4.
