Anyone have any idea what is causing this? The noise comes from the front pads when the pedal is pressed firmly. The pads have been on for less than 200 miles and were installed at VW Sport. The noise just started yesterday. At first I blamed it on heat build up from a lot of stop and go driving yesterday, but after a full day of rest I pulled the car out today and the noise promptly began again. Please help...

Brake from 40 mph to 5 mph, moderate pressure. Do this 10 times with one third mile between stops to cool the brakes.

I hope you didn't do hard stops up until now or you may have already glazed the pads and the bedding-in procedure won't help. Pad removal will be required and the the pads sanded down with fairly rough sandpaper once glazed.

Thanks for the info Bob. No hard braking so far, and I haven't coasted to a stop while riding the brakes. However, I very well may have glazed them. I'll try your recommendation and if all else fails I guess I'll be removing and sanding :(

Try bedding them in. It may take 15 or 20 cycles.

Then drive the car for a few more hundred miles.

The get on the brakes big time, don't over heat. Just cruise at 60 mph and push hard for a normal quick stop. Let cool for 1 mile and do it again for 3 or 4 stops!. If that doesn't do it then sand. Give them some time!!!
