It took about 7 3/4 liters of ATF according to my mechanic. Does it seem right? He said that after after filling up the car got too hot and would not take any more fluid. He took it outside for a while to cool it off (it is about 30F) then it took almost all. I gave him 8 bottles.
So far it runs great. It feels exactly the same as before very very smooth. I hope the level is right.

Did he check fluid level while checking fluid temperature with a VAG-COM while the car was idling? While the temp is in the range (30-40C IIRC), the fluid should just barely drip out of the fill port in the transmission pan.

Amazing how much smoother the tranny runs. I've saved your pictures, I'm going to throw at least the one of the oil at the end of the procedure.

w/about 70,000 on the odometer. Transmission had the tell-tale high pitched squeal. They dropped the pan and found no shavings. Mechanic wanted to change only the fluid and leave the filter. I figured that would be a bad idea...

I sent them to audipages for more info.
