Because I take my 3 small kids to school, I decided that the fun car wasn't practical enough. I always loved the S8, so I had my heart set on finding a used S8. It became clear that I might have to purchase sight-unseen, making me a little nervous. Initially I didn't consider the 04 A8L, as I don't need (or like) the long wheel base. However, I test drove the 04 today and was impressed. I always loved the look, but found the handling through the twisties great for such a big car. Just for comparison, I drove a 2000 A8, and there was quite a difference. I had driven an S8 2 years ago, but all I remember is that it felt big compared to my S4.
I loved the interior, much more so than the 2000. However, I prefer the low tech electronics. I think I'll learn to like the MMI, although I found it cumbersome.
I mulled it over for some time, and finally decided to lease the 04 for 2 years. I hate leasing, but I plan to get an 05 or 06 S8 anyway. They had a car equipped with everything I wanted, and then some. Someone had just backed out of his order. It has convenience, cold weather, and 18" wheels, dual pane glass and parktronic (I could do without the last 2). It's silver, probably the only color I will ever get (although I've also liked Ming blue).
I'll miss the feel of the S4, but it's time to move on. We'll see if I regret it.

And I just noticed that your Audiworld account number is 1799; it looks like you've been around a while :-)

At that time, this was A4.org and only had a few forums. It seems like the first members all have S4s. I know of at least 2 that are in the single digits.

04 A8L silver/sabre...western `burbs of Philly!

I've been mulling over a lease on the new A8L, and was actually considering a 2-yr lease (just can't seem to keep the same car for more than 2 yrs).

What type of deal did you get on a 2 yr lease? Monthly vs down payment. Thanks
