My 2000 has had a myriad of problems lately at about 40k miles. First, the "brake pad low" warning lite came on, and it took the dealer a month to figure out what the problem was. Shortly thereafter, the car started to make a rhythmic "ticking" sound coming from the dash (no, it's not lifters). It follows a slow cadence...tick, tick-tick, tick-tick-tick, tick, tick-tick..then stops. Then starts again in about 15 minutes.
The dealer thinks I am nuts since it's never happened while I'm there. Now, the "check oil" lite is on, and the oil is full. Let's see what the dealer has to say about this one.
Has anyone had strange issues like this one?
Thanks in advance!

my old jaguar. I hope Audi's reliability doesn't go into the dumps like the Jag.

.
1. Center computer display shows two lines of random letters that disappear in less than one sec -- happened 15-20 times
2. Central computer display completely blank for about 5 minutes -- happened once
3. Radio retuned itself at random, to a frequency with no station -- happened twice
4. Steering wheel/column did not extend to normal driving position when I started the car -- happened ~10 times
5. Shut off the car with 1/4 tank of gas. Next morning fuel gauge reads zero, but I still had a 1/4 tank when I went to fill it up. -- happens regularly (probably related to the fact that I climb a very steep hill just I park the car).
Frankly, I really don't like all the frivilous electrical stuff in cars these days. I have confidence that I can properly and indefinitely maintain any car mechanically. I don't have high expectations for the longetivity of the dozens of motors, switches, relays, and sensors.

Only one (currently at 77,000 miles)- about once a month my sunroof decides to open all by itself! (Tilts up in the back, not slide open.) All I have to do to fix it is rap on the switch once or twice (percussive maintenance), and it closes back up! Otherwise, I am astounded that all of the other electrical doohickeys and thingamajigs still work- including the heated steering wheel and the rear window shade! All we can do is keep our fingers crossed and hope for good luck, because sooner or later the electrical gremlins will hit all of us.
The ticking sound you hear coming from the dash may be from one of the climate control actuators- I'd have the mechanics check them out (put the climate control system through its paces to see if the noise can be repeated for them).
