I went to a Southern California dealership today to order an A4 2.8 2000 model with the intent of setting a fixed price over invoice. The dealership wouldn’t budge, and said they would only take full MSRP. However, many times on this bulletin I’ve heard people say they have ordered their A4s for a set amount over invoice. The dealer went on to say that I would be hard pressed to be able to make a deal anywhere, because once the 2000s come in, many people are willing to pay MSRP. Am I being screwed with? Please help.

I got a good deal on my 99 factory order by e-mailing my
specifications to Southern California dealers and requesting
a bid. Two good possibilities would be Circle Audi
in Long Beach (hotcars@circleimports.com) and Cutter
here in Santa Barbara (jonshafer@cuttermotors.com).

Just an fyi, I live in a suburb of Salt Lake and ordered a '00 A4 from a dealer in Provo (about 20 minutes south of SLC) in May. Back then, the dealer agreed to $1250 over invoice, even though no one knew invoice or MSRP. This was quite a thing to do, considering they had '99's in stock. They have been exemplary in the whole process and while this may sound nuts, you might want to think about buying it over here :-). I live over an hour from them and was able to do the whole thing over the phone with only 1 trip down to the dealer.

that dealer doesn't want to sell very many cars. Go somewhere else, do not return. A4 2.8s tend to sit on lots for several months (at least around these parts they do). It's a great car, but isn't exactly flying off lots at a rate where a greedy dealer can demand MSRP. You should certainly be able find one for around 5 percent over invoice.

Good luck.

here in chicago, i agreed with a dealer on a price % over invoice, any dealer should be willing to do that. if not, remember, WALK. if they want to sell you a car, they will.
PS, a4 are pretty popular here, as they are in so cal .

Ordered MY2000 1.8 and $1250 over invoice. I do not know if you can expect the same deal for a 2.8; Hmmm did you go to Circle Audi? I went there and she wanted few hundred under MSRP. I'm glad I got a better deal at NAC.

Just confirmed my new A4 yesterday through Carorder.com. Will be delivered in November through Rector Audi in Burlingame at invoice.

My cousin lives in Irvine. At my suggestion, he contacted carorder.com for his 1.8T order. He is looking for a FWD, Tiptronic 1.8T with sport package in Volcano black/onyx leatherette. Since they couldn't locate a '99.5 car with his specs, they are ordering him a 2000 model through Rector Audi in northern California. They have given him a guaranteed price based on their current invoice prices ('99), which is some $250 below the current '99.5 invoice prices. Even if they change their deal to 2000 invoice price, he will be getting a heck of a deal. His car is due in November. Give them a try. You have nothing to lose.
