I tried to unlock the car this morning with the remote as usual. It failed. The temperature also happened to be 15 degrees F. Neither of my two remotes have worked all day. Is this a coincidence or is it related to the cold? I would appreciate any thouhts. Thanks,
JohnB

Mine would not work last Monday (18-degrees F) when I left work. I thought the remote battery might be the problem (2-years old), but when I got home (3-miles) I tried it again and it worked fine.
The remote was not working Tuesday (mid 20's F) at lunch, but when I got to my destination (only a few miles) it worked fine locking the car and unlocking after lunch and re-locking again when I got back to the office.
Beats me. I am thinking about replacing the remote battery myself since it is a 1.5-hour drive to the dealer.
Anybody know what type of battery is required?
Robert Jordan
'97 1.8t

John,
My remote also sometimes fails when it is very cold out. It seems to be a funtion of how cold the car's interior is, because after a drive it generally works, but if it has been sitting outside for a long time in freezing tempatures it won't work or the range is greatly reduced. I really don't think it is related to the remote battery as I have tried both remotes, neither remote battery is that weak, and it is not consistent, which a weak battery would be. Maybe the Audi engineers in Ingolstadt know the answer. Any EE's with a theory out there?
Gary B
98.5 1.8tqms
