I am looking seriously at the new A8's. The one thing that I am really hung up over is the auto transmission. The difference in performance between the auto and manual S8 is about 20%. Has anyone delved into the question as to why the manual transmission used on the S8 is/could not be available on an US A8? I may still go with a 2.7T A6 to get a manual transmission.
I wondered this too. Although its not listed as an option, I wonder if you could use the Euro ordering code for manual trans when you order one.

… the end of the calendar year, you may yet see the six-speed transmission. But with the limited number of cars that will likely be imported I cannot imagine the importer validating two gearboxes for so few vehicles. I suppose you could let Audi of Amerika know whether you'd prefer Tiptronic or a clutch.

I had them do this on one of our cars and it was an excellent result. Beautifully machined pedal arms, dual master cylinders to support larger brake packages, etc.
Email me if you need more information or, even better, email them. sales@vortrag.com

This is news. Everything I have seen says that there are no plans to make the A8 available here.

And If it does but I bet it will be tiptronic only for the reasons posted above.
