Unless an A8 has been sitting on a dealers lot for eons and they HAVE to get rid of it. Just my opinion based upon numerous conversations with my dealer.

I am only speculating here, but the A8 is not exactly flying out of Audi showrooms. My neighborhood dealer (Ogner in Woodland Hills, CA) has a beautiful '00 A8 4.2 (black/camel interior) in stock. The car has been prominently displayed for the past couple of months, and I have yet to see any potential buyers check it out.

I don't know where you live, but in SoCal there is a dealer advertising fee (1% of base invoice price) that is tacked on top of the vehicle invoice price. Since the dealers presumably pay this fee to Audi, their net cost for a '00 A8 would be about $540 over vehicle invoice. I would think that a $1500 profit ($2000 total over invoice) for acar they don't have to keep on their lot for months is quite fair. $1000 over invoice would not be fair since they would be making less than $500 profit.

I would offer tham $1500 over vehicle invoice and see what happens.
