Follow me on this...
Steps to S8 ownerships in the US...

1) Purchase a used, ok VERY used Audi A8 (for teh price factor)
2) Ship it overseas legally
3) Purchase S8 in Europe
4) Swap the VIN plates off the A8 onto the S8
5) Send S8 back to US as an A8.

Hmmmmm....food for thought.

Not to belittle the intelligence of customs, but knowledge is somethig different. Do you really think a customs agent would know the difference?

the difference between the models, they will know that a modification has taken place.
I have seen people bring in newer air cooled VW Beetles from Mexico, I don't know how they got away with it. You might check VWVortex at

http://www.vwvortexforums.com/</a

you purchase an A8 here in the states, it could be used. then you ship the car over to Europe, France is fine. This costs about $700. Drive down to Bulgaria or Albania. Buy stolen S8 for about $10,000. Then do the tag job, and ship car back for a cost of $1400. you might want to consider a twin turbo kit while driving back through germany.

Funny you mention badges... In Italy,, where you are heavily taxed for engine displacement.. Affluent Italians have been known to bring over from Germany Audi 4.2's,, Mercedes S500, BMW 740iL,, and rebadging them as Audi A8 1.8,, Mercedes S220 Bmw 718iL.. I'm sure w/ several thousand Liras under the table an Audi A8 1.8 quattros makes logical sense to customs..

This is my first time over in this forum. I wonder how many people here could really afford a S8 even if it were offered.

Two ways to do it:

1. New changes in the laws reported by Autoweek allow importation of exotic cars - only limit is the mileage must stay under 2,500 yearly. I am sure the paper work will be expensive to do this.

2. Buy a A8 and import the parts to convert. Suspension, xmission, wheels, engine, etc.

Ken:

That works for up to 1 year only. Within that period of time you must have the car "omologata" and that will rectify all those little issues. After 1 yera tha car can be confiscated.
