Has anyone installed the 12.4" A8 rotors on there A4? Is there much of an improvement. Is it just adding the bracket to mount the front caliper. What is the Audi part # on the caliper bracket in the kit. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Sport Wheels has a $795 package that includes 2 rotors and a mounting bracket for the calipers (you use stock A4 calipers). Check out the new FAQ on how to install. I doubt that you will get a better price from a dealer (unless they are a blood relative). Personally, I wonder about the cost vs benefit of doing this. If you make the rotor larger, you will get better heat dissipation, but without using a larger caliper and pad you are not really getting the full benefit of the upgrade. Of course adding the calipers brings you up to the $1200 range a la TAP's brake kit. HTH
Chris

So far things have been great. But with in the last
1000 of my 20,000 miles some annoying things have occured.
1. the gas gauge wont read full even when I top off the tank.
The entire calibration seems off. When I refill I usually have
two more gallons than I should. So the refuel light is at least consistant
with the needle. This was a constant problem in my Subaru Impreza wagon.
I gave up on it cause I was an inconsistentcy I exspected from a $15K car.
It's not one I want to tolerate from a $30k+ Audi.
2. During agressive driving my seat shifts about 1/8" in the track
when entering and exiting (mostly exiting) a hard corner. This seems
like it could be a safty issue.
3. Every once in an inconsistant while my cruise controlle goes through a surge and
release. What's up with this.
My 22,500 service is coming up and I'll have the dealer adress them
I was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences and how easy they were to fix.
I really love my A4 Avant and plan to keep it a very long time (or at least untill the S4 Avant
makes it to these shores :-), I just hope these aren't a sighn of things to come.
Any help would be apprieceated.
mark

I had the same problem with the fuel gage in my A4 after 2.5 years. After a couple of visits to the dealer they finally replaced the fuel sensor (located somewhere undernaeath the rear seat, I think). That took care of the problem for good. Seems like yours is the same problem.
Good luck!
Mike

nothing to stop driving - but annoying as prior Japanese products didn't have this:
1. Loose wire in climate control caused erratic fan blower operation -dealer replaces head unit only to find out later it was loose wire at fuse.
2.Engine coolant sensor erratic at below sub-zero temps. Still to be diagnosed.
3. Squeaky suspension cured by service tech appying some lubricant at bushings. So far this works but skeptical if long term it won't reappear.
4. Possible gasket leakage as last self oil change found taletell signs. Will have to advise service tech. I change oil in between scheduled as I drive short distances to work (4 miles) and engine doesn't achieve full operation.
5. weird radio displays on occasion
AS you see most is minor and doesn't affect function, however, it is disconcerting when car stickers at $33k these things occur.
still happy as the joy of driving overwhelms these trivialities.
Happy trails
2.8Qspt-tip

For what it's worth, my prior Honda had the following problems (all less than 40k miles):
-CV joint replacement - approx 10k miles
-Head gasket leaking - 40k
-Water leak into driver's side - 40k
-Creaking rear suspension & hatch - 10k
-Transmission seal bad - 20k
-Creaking seat replaced - 10k
(and a few more).
This is just to add some perspective to all this.
Tom
1.8TQMS
So far, problems I encountered were no surprises...
1. Sunroof switch
2. Brake squeak
3. Broken Wastegate rod (not sure if my Neuspeed Chip caused it)
4. broken headlight washer pump...(like I really need it)
Prior to my 98 A4, I owned a 325i. Here's a list of problems I had...(long)
-Clutch rattle
-broken window switch
-broken seat belt. (passenger behind driver)
-Sunroof. Track broke and could not tilt sunroof. Occured 2000 miles after 50k miles
-Thermostat broke and caused radiator to literally explode. I had coolant flying 30 feet in the air.
-window seal broke
-OBC (on board computer) button broke.
-At 30K miles engine began to idle strange at night with headlights on.
-Had to replace fog lights 4 times...weak glass on those damn fog lights. Bad design, IMO.
-Passenger side door panel came loose and cracked a little. Was able to get the panel back on but crack really bothered me...
-Driver's side power seat motor broke. Will not move up or down.
-Climate control broke. Bad sensor.
-O2 sensor damaged at 20K miles. Engine light came on.
I think that was about it...I owned the 325 for 4 years. And quite a few of these problem occured in the first 25K miles.
I consider my A4 a much better car...not bias...from experience...
1.8T Neuspeed
Hey kid...go for a ride in the snow on your bicycle to cool off...No one asked for your opinion. If you have a problem with A4's go tell the folks at the Lexus board. Something you probably can afford...poor bastard...I feel sorry for you and your mother!
