I've had Saabs, Benzes, BMWs, etc. both old and new and NO other car I've ever driven has the ROCK SOLID directional stability of any U.S. era Audi. It is Audi's most consistent quality.

View Full Version : Places to get an oil change in the Bay Area? JIM H. 12-07-1998, 06:10 PM I've had Saabs, Benzes, BMWs, etc. both old and new and NO other car I've ever driven has the ROCK SOLID directional stability of any U.S. era Audi. It is Audi's most consistent quality. ChuckH 12-07-1998, 11:01 PM ...was some sort of special regarding Audi and Hans Stuck. I think they were the same show! :-) Anyway, this was a somewhat dated show, but one of the things they mentioned was the tests that Audi does regarding side winds. In the example they showed, a 90 series Audi was driven at high speeds past a blast of air that simulated a side wind gust. I don't remember the side wind speed, but I think it was about 30 MPH or so. Since I own an '89, 90 quattro, much like the one tested in the show, I was very interested, because the first thing I noticed when I bought it was that it was much more resistant to side wind than any other car I've owned. Now I understand why. I assume the A4 goes through the same or a similar test, as do probably many other European cars.
Charles
BTW: I find the A4 to be plenty resistant to side winds :-) Don S 12-08-1998, 03:43 AM I have driven my 97 2.8 QM in the mountains on I 8 east of San Diego up to speeds of 130 mph. It felt rock steady and I felt totally in control. In fact it felt the same from 100 mph up to engine cut off speed. There were some strong crosswinds that day but I had no problems. There was some wind noise from the side window. I love this car. I was in Utah on I-70 with a 30 MPH cross wind. How do I know that? Well, I saw a tumble weed go by and it wasn't tumbling...it was flying. So, I pulled over just to see how windy it was, the wind was going left to right, and I could barely get my door open.
Later on I found myself on a huge staright, and thought I would find out if the speed govenor was gone. From 60 through 85 there was very little wind noise or movmement of the car from the wind, and this is how fast I drive 99% of the time. It was very smooth even with the wind. Once I got above 95 it sounded like someone was prying open the top corner of the drivers side door. At about a 120 MPH it got really load. I gave up at 145 MPH because it sounded like my car was going to implode and I got scared. As soon as I got back below 95 it went quiet again. The whole time there was very little disturbance from the wind.
Rick
98.5 Avant QMS Asim 01-07-1999, 02:02 PM Hi All,
I want to get an oil changes done before my next scheduled maintenance. I am at 12424 miles on my 98.5 2.8qm, and I am curious to know if the A4 orggers just take their cars to the dealer or go some place else to get an oil change done before the regular scheduled maintenace.
Thanks In Advance.
-Asim
Steve S. 01-07-1999, 03:10 PM I have taken my car for non-warranty work to these two places:
1) M&M Audi House - Campbell CA (408-378-7001) - highly recommended
by Quattro List folks
2) D&M Motors - Palo Alto CA (650-329-9016) - they installed my new modified
throttle body on my A4. Owner is a uncle of a friend of mine that has a 93 Audi
S4...and a 87 4000 Quattro. Dieter is the guys name.
In the northbay, I do not know of any.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. DO NOT go to QuickLube, SnappyLube, etc....your A4 has a special
oil filter...besides...they sometimes have a tendency to forget to put
back the oil drain plug...I know of someone with a Suburban that this
happened to. |
