I put a deposit with St. Louis dealer in March of this year. He wouldn't tell me how far down the list I was, and he still will not tell me now. He can't tell me if I'm getting a car in Sep or Dec.... or he doesn't want to tell me at least. I read about several of you who have VIN's. I don't. The other dilemma, my '98 A4 1.8TS-tip's warranty is running out (October-ish), and my car is a lemon. (for real, lemon, but it will cost more to file because of the high miles) I can't hold the car past warranty because it is just too expensive to fix. Please trust me on this part... I think I hold the record for repairs. Any recommendations?

If your salesperson won't tell you where you are on the list, there's a real problem. Try asking someone else at the dealership -- they have that information FOR SURE.
If they can't provide you with a VIN, try and get your confirmation number. With that, you should be able to call any Audi dealership and have them check your status.
Don't be afraid to get your deposit back and take your business elsewhere. Let your salesperson know you are unhappy with his actions!

Info on arrival dates is definitely available at this time, at least for Sept and October deliveries. I ordered in May and am getting mine the week after Labor day. Your dealer should know. Some color combo's are delayed for one month or so. There are also some "unclaimed" vehicles being shipped to the larger dealerships.
Good luck.

Have no experience with the S4, but had several deposits for a TT. From what you said, I would say that you have pretty much wasted 6 months with this dealer. In essence, since you are pushing an October deadline, you are screwed! If Audi gives cars out like they did the TT, the key to remember is that "dealer size matters". I have no idea how large of a dealer you are working with, but if they cannot give you that info., then they must be pretty small. As such, they are getting 1 or 2 cars in the first allocation of cars. If you were one of the lucky 1 or 2, I am sure they would have told you. Hence, you will be waiting until December for a car with them - if it ever comes. Trust me, your salesperson/dealer has no problem holding onto your money.
I would suggest you go to Audi or America and print out the list of all dealers within 200+ miles of St. Loius (heck, you are in St. Louis - it is a cheap TWA flight to fly anywhere) and check out other dealers. Call the main number and ask to talk to the Audi sales manager. Someone awhile ago suggested that if you get passed off to a salesperson, make sure they are a Certified Brand Specialist (only sell Audi's and not Hyundia's on the side).
Though, I think you will have a hard time finding an S4 for September/October delivery. Probably will be able to find something for December.
good luck!
I don't know which dealer, but I'd bet it's Don McGill, my S4 is on the boat to McGill and I'm told I'll have it the first week of September. Check back about 5 days for a post by DCC on this topic.
