once it's time for an oil change, the odometer tells me. So how can i reset it if i change it myself? thanks,

...You can't reset the "Oil" indicator that shows up in the trip odometer without a VAG tool. On later A4's (maybe 98.5 and newer) there is a procedure outlined in the Owner's Manual. So you'll have to go back to the dealer or an independant shop that has the VAG tool.

You can get the dealer to reset it to not show up for like 99,000 miles...that way you won't have to be bothered with the indicator again.
