Hi,
I posted the message last month regarding the install of the S4 xenon headlamps in my A4. I work for Hella and was doing a test install to make sure that there were no technical difficulties involved in the installation.
Since there are so many questions regarding this subject, I thought that I would share a little information.
The install was extremely simple..."plug and play". It was just a matter of disconnecting the socket from the back of the lamp along with the fasteners attaching the lamp to the car and simply reversing the procedure with the new lamps.
The lamps are awsome. I have really gotten used to them over the last few weeks and would not go back to standard halogen headlamps. I have not had any problems as far as blinding oncoming traffic and have yet to be flashed by anybody.
The headlamp unit is comprised of a "DE" projector type low beam with a D2S burner, a 55W H7 high beam (same as stock)and a city light (which is not functional in cars with the North American wiring harness, although I beleive Mark at LLTek knows how to enable this lamp). The S4 lamps, however, do not have the integrated fog lamp like the stock headlamps came with. Also included with the S4 headlamp is a clear turn signal assembly.
As far as the limited supplies are concerned, Hella is manufacturing the complete unit, i.e. lens, reflector, ballst unit, burner, etc. for only a short period of time. I believe that they will manufacture individual items as spare parts but as of early this year there will be no more complete units assembled.
I do have a picture of the headlamp/turn signal assembly if anybody would like to see it installed on my car. I don't have a web site but would be happy to forward it to anybody that would like to post it for viewing. I hope that this answers most of your questions.
Ron
r_egan@yahoo.com

I am licking my chops over these babies. My wife already gave me the resounding "no!" but I might have to go ahead with it anyway. It's good to know that Hella will be able to manufacture spares parts at least.
Jason
1. Anybody know how much this costs?
2. I thought Xenon headlamps required a beefier
electrical system.
3. If Xenon bulbs burn out, is Hella gonna
have replacements available? Sorry this
question is stupid.
4. I heard LLtek will have them for sale. Are
there any other sellers?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
sincerely,
Paul C

1. I think LLTek's price is $1299.00 acording to the posts I have read.
2. No, your stock electrical system can handle the HID's. The ballast unit that generates the 28,000 volts required to ignite the arc only requires a 12v input.
3. The D2S xenon burner is a standard item and you should not have any problem finding a replacement. This is something that you shouldn't even worry about since the likelyhood of it ever having to be replaced is next to none.
4. Lltek is the only company selling these lights currently.

Do these Xenon S4 lamps make use of the integrated fog lamp? Is the switch still active with these?
VK
