since I can hold 1st longer off the line if I want to. However, I cannot shift down into 1st while moving, unless I am almost at a stop, or if I am throttling the gas pedal at the same time. That part seems odd, but oh well.

Shifts seem a bit smoother, but that might be my mind playing tricks on me.

FYI - I drove a loaner A4 with the tip buttons on the steering wheel, and I could shift down into 1st without throttling.

From what I understand the code leans your driving habits correct? So if you drive at normal speeds after a period of time the tranny will adapt to your driving habit, right?

learning than good ol' D mode. Also allows you to hold 1st to redline (this may be a drawback if you have a leadfoot and drive half-asleep). No idea why boston cannot shift down into 1st - mine does as long as it won't exceed redline.

There is absolutely no reason not to do it. And if you don't like it, it's so easy to switch back.

Mine upshifts to 2nd automatically when I'm off throttle, and I can't downshift to 1st unless I'm nearly stopped. Every other gear is fine. I much prefer the way my Infiniti shifts, behaving more like a manual; I think it only overrides high-RPM downshifts.

I may go to 00012 (Sport Mode only). PS: whats all this stuff about downshifting to 1st? Even if possible (while still moving), wouldn't this be hazardous to tranny health?

The 2.7T has a really short 1st gear so therin lies some of the problem. You get out of 1st really quickly and it's sometimes hard to predict even in Tip mode. At least with the recode you can hold 1st, if you want to. The 'sport' mode just downshifts earlier. The upshifts didn't really seem to happen any quicker in my car.

I did the first time and it didn't take. When I did it properly, (with the engine off), whoa what a difference! If you have a vag-com, check it out, sounds like you have stock programming.

First gear is very low, and unless you are looking for a real jack-rabbit move, you don't want to downshift from 2 to 1.

No need to be downshifting into 1st at speed.
