Last night I fell asleep dreaming that I made arrangements for and bought:
1999 A4 2.8 quattro. Hibiscus Red and leather ambiente interior. All the options of course, except that I would insist on changing the sport wheels for the regular 5 spoke wheels while keeping the sport tires. I dreamt and dreamt and dreamt.................maybe when I get out of this hell hole of medical school i'll be able to buy one despite my freaking loans. pretty pitiful, huh?

...but, come to think about it, I don't think my A4 would agree to that...
/Lars

Sure I didn't NEED a car in the city, but now that I have my Avant I have put 5500 mi. on it since May. I take every opportunity to go for a drive. Last weekend took a spin up the NJ Palisades parkway and it was magnificent. Twisty road, leaves turning colors and beautiful views of the city and the Hudson River. You will use it. I can recommend a salesperson at Zumbach in the city if you are interested.

If you wouldn't mind sharing, How is Zumbach? How much over invoice did you pay? Did you lease or buy?

My buying experience at Zumbach was satisfactory, delivery and service is another story. I bought an Avant with every option but sports suspension and trip computer, from the minute I walked in the deal was $500 over invoice for any car, any options. My salesperson worked hard to find the car that I wanted. If you read this board, there is no doubt that you will know more about the car than them. I should mention that one of the major reasons I chose Zumbach is because they will pick up my car at my garage and drop it off after regular service, a big plus in NYC. SALES: B+.
The deal went smoothly until I picked up the car (at night, BIG MISTAKE.) First, the back of the driver seat was dislodged, something completely missed by them and found by me. The next day I realized that the rear bumper had been damaged and painted over very poorly to conceal it. I had a fit with Zumbach and they took my car back that first week, repaired the bumper and returned the car 4 days later. DELIVERY: F.
Scheduling a service visit is a very unpleasant experience. Zumbach must take in hundreds of cars a day, between Audi, Range Rover and Saab. You may have to wait 1 month for an appointment and when you show up, you will wait on a large line of cars. If they pick up your car, this will not be a problem but you will not be able to go over every problem with them as I like to do. Once my car was there, they kept it for 4 days for minor repairs. In my esitmation, it should have taken no longer than 1 day, but as I said, they take in a lot of cars and must not have enough techs to work on them. In the end, they solved most of the problems but denied knowing about any fix for the remote range, despite me providing them with the service bulletin. SERVICE: C+
I have heard of great dealerships on this board and am envious of the treatment some are getting. My folks have had Lexus and Mercedes and my last car was an Acura. They were all better than Zumbach.
Lastly, a new dealership just opened in New Jersy. I got an e-mail from them about great service and prices. If you want, I can forward the e-mail to you, just leave me your address. Hope this helps.
