But on the off chance it does snow, any M+S tires make you legal. jp 01-12-1999, 05:32 PM With M&S tires you'll
1. Be legal (can get through R1 & R2 chain controls). You won't get through R3 (all vehicles need chains) - but it is very rarely used.
2. As long as you have reasonable tread, you will get OK performance in the snow.
You probably won't have much problem getting going, but remember, when its slippery, stopping is what's hard! I switch to snow tires in the winter, since I'm up there a lot during ski season. But the stock Goodyear RSAs were reasonably good.
Be careful, & have fun!!!
ps In theory, you're required to have chains in the car (even w/ 4WD). I've never been asked, but there is a chance you won't be let through a checkpoint w/o them. I carry a set of SCC cables with me, just in case. I doubt I'd run far (or at all) with them, though... P2 01-12-1999, 05:57 PM Should be no problem. Drove thru a snow storm on my way to Soda Springs with my Sport packaged equipped A4 (Quattro). There was heavy snow on the road. I passed two check points and all I had to say was "Quattro"!! Just don't expect to stop on a dime though....
P2 |
