I have recently dicovered that my 1998 A4 was one of the few 1998 models delivered with leftover 1997 Bose stereo systems. I found this out when trying to add an after market Panasonic CD changer with a PIC adapter which is supposed to fit all 1998 Audi radios. I fell like I been shafted by Audi and am wondering if I have any recourse against Audi. Has anyone else discovered this same problem?
Updated Concert radio wasn't installed until "98.5" build (starting in October or November of 1997, I believe). Your radio wasn't a "leftover"; that would be like saying that if the 99.5's come with the Symphony AM/FM/cassette/CD a 99.0 had a "leftover" 1998 radio...
Just get the Alpine CD player. You could have saved some time and verified this by your rear lights (if they have the amber, you've got a 98.0).
-josh
98.5 2.8qms+bose

The '98s came early because they had run out of the 12v engines. So all the A4s between April and Oct/Nov had the Blaupunkt radio. I personally perfer the sound from that radio over the newer Panasonic (although I would like the stronger rear amp from the newer system), and the look of the tri-color tail lights.
