Just curious as to what would be involved in putting a small, unobtrusive NACA style duct (or other type of duct) on the hood of an A4. The location I am thinking of is the front corner of the hood on the passenger-side.
Since my PES supercharger system breathes through a K&N filter, I'd love to supply it with a nice fresh stream of cold air. Trust me, there's no room to do it anywhere else, unless you start cutting through metal in more substantial places, which I am NOT going to do.
Does anyone know how these ducts are fabricated? Also, what about keeping the weather out. I assume it would be a bad thing to let water enter the duct and run directly on to the air filter. How does this work. I plead ignorance on this subject.
For anyone thinking about flaming me for thinking about adding a small duct, please save it. My car is very conservative. No spoilers, no body kit, no tint. One little duct isn't going to turn it into a "boy-racer".
Thanks,
Mike

This weekend I will be looking at cutting a hole in the bottom of the air box.
If I remember the is a large round hole in the subframe under the airbox.
You might be able to install a Flexi duct from the
air box under to the lower spoiler vent.
you might have to move the horns.

I was thinking that, but had the entire front end of the car apart and couldn't see any place to route a flexible tube. Let me know if you have any luck.
Mike

the "Power Monger" himself! ;-)
Actually, I don't think it makes much of a difference right now with 20 degree temps. However, a cool air supply might be nice when we hit the 90's next Summer.
Mike

Purchased NACA ducts about a month ago from a Pegasus racing supplies. The quality of the ducts are great, I believe it was 1/8" thick.. I purchased two of them, one which was mounted to the front lower panel of the passenger side of the car, and the other one inside of the filter box.. I also purchased 3" air hoses and clamps to connnect the.. So my setup is just a 3" hole in the bottom of the airbox and connected by the hoses. If you are going to cut a hole in the box make sure you cut the hole towards the front of the box and not totally on the bottom as this will create a problem with room.. If you have any questions on my setup just ask....
Dmak 1.8TQMS

There is plenty of room under the air box.. Just take out the entire air box and you will see a big hole where you can route the air hose. Make sure you cut the hole towards the front of the box and not at the bottom, because there is not enough room for clearance on the bottom of the box. but plenty of room uf you cut the hole diagonaly.. Any question just ask.. Good luck
Dmak 1.8TQMS

Dmak...any chance you have the phone number or address for Pegasus. Are they located in the midwest?

I don't *have* an airbox. The open element K&N is now in that area, as well as the supercharger unit itself. There is very little room.
Also, I don't remember this hole you speak of. I wonder if the 1.8T and 2.8 are different? Anyway, I'll take another look see and report back.
Mike
