I'm worried about rubbing or overhang.

17x8 with 255/40-17 tires

Anybody with experience with these?

If so, you will have no problems - absolutely no rubbing at all. only downside is that I may subject the car to more road rash due to the wider tires. The 4.2 is obviously better designed for these with the flared fenders. I have a set of mud flaps that I haven't installed yet, which will help with the potential road rash.

Did you adjust your speedometer or not bother for the 1% change?

I should check my speedo against my GPS though just to make sure.

and it reads about 1-2 MPH slow (at 65MPH) with 255/40-17's. I'd say that's pretty close, considering most cars aren't that close from the factory!
