Anyone tried to clear out the signal light portion (top) of their rear tail lights?

Is it even feasible? I like the look of the new A4's tail light w/ the clear lens on top.

The plastic itself is read. You'd have to cut the outer lens. Then you'd probably lose your water-proofness.
