It flashed at like 250 miles before every other scheduled maintainence. Could this be linked to my door chime not working either (i.e. they're both on the same "warning" chip or something?)?

I think the service tech can set how many miles till the next service indicator. It doesn't simply come on a fixed number of miles prior to the Audi recommended interval. Mine has come on as much as 1,500 miles before it was due for service.

Perhaps you were late going in for your last service.

I think the system actually keys off of actual mileages...rather than start from your last service. My 45K service light came on at about 43,500 miles. If he is only 10 miles away from 45K something might not be correct in his system. But then, I have been known to be wrong in the past. :-)

I have the Carcomp software and set my interval for a 100K miles so it never comes on again!

Anyone who changes his own oil would be wise to have the dealer set the interval way out there before the warranty period runs out (especailly on '97, etc that need software to reset) or it will cost time and money to travel to the dealer to reset it.
