I moved over to allow him/her to pass and to my surprise it was a silver audi wagon with twin chrome exhaust pipes. I sped up to confirm my suspicion that this was an S6 Avant and it was--just like mine!!! For a fleeting moment I wondered if it was my stolen car, but alas, the car had its CA license plates and was probably at least 2 months old. As I crossed left and overtook the S6, the driver sped up to keep up with me and the real driving began. Although I cannot say how aggressively the S6 driver was driving (he/she was definately trying to keep up with me), I was surprised how easily I could pull away from the S6 when we were both accelerating. The S6 did seem to handle well with good lane changing at high speeds and visibly noticeable bursts of acceleration while trying to catch up. I recently stated that the S6 Avant felt like it was as fast as my 996 from 80 to 100---well, based on tonight, I have to retract that statement. My subjective sense of acceleration at highways speeds is probably not that accurate from car to car. Overall, the S6 Avant was impressive in that it could keep up, but it was no match for the 996 (I know, I know--who would expect that it would be. On the other hand, I have been totally impressed with the S6 Avant acceleration and it seemed to be similar to that of my 996.) All in all, I was proud of our S6's performance tonight and I'm lucky to have one.
