View Full Version : Is it bad to wait until the warranty runs out to chip?

I just bought a new 1.8T and my current thinking is to drive it until the warranty runs out and then chip the engine. Are there any caveats to waiting for 3 years ( or possibly 50k ) before chipping the car?

Think of all the time you wasted getting to your destination a little later than you might have if you had chipped ;-)

Think of the 50K miles you had to drive chip free :(

Just do it. Get your car past the break-in period and stick it in.

You will have no regrets (if this forum is any indication).

some chipped earlier some later. if you want piece of mind spend a little extra money and get the spare ecu. apr sells a complete replacement ecu for $599. when you go in for service just spend an extra 15min or so and put the stock ecu back in.

and yes .. like gordon said .. "it's a waste of time to wait" it'll be the best $600 you've spent in a LONG time. :)

I considered the chip but 10 or 15 HP didn't seem to be worthwhile. I'm currently trying to save for a PES supercharger. I'll do it as soon as a can afford it - warranty or not. I may upgrade the muffler in preparation for the PES since it will also offer me a couple of HP.
