View Full Version : Ignorant brake Q: If I go with StopTech's in the front- could I use the OEM fronts on the rear?

I'm like Finman- wanting to do a brake upgrade on all 4 wheels at the same time. But I haven't found a solution which offers that.

I would love to have the S8 set up- but I don't know if it would fit within my 17" Avus wheels. So if I go with StopTech, and have 2 decent size brake set up laying around, why not swap them out with the rears? They would be larger (better?) than the current set up.

So here are some of my Q's:
* Are there any concerns about the ABS algorithms being compromised?

* Obviously the car can handle greater stopping force from the front, but are there any concerns (structural/rigidity wise) about having greater stopping power from the rear?

* Can the S8 brakes be used on all 4 wheels in the 2.7T?

Kinda new to the whole break issue, so I'm afraid my simple idea might be too simple.

Thanks in Advance-
Ernesto

Many say that unless you upgrade the ABS to 4-channel you shouldn't upgrade the rears, especially not to be that large.

The problem is that the ABS circuits in the car are diagonally split, so when a rear wheel locks up it releases that wheel and the diagonally opposite front wheel. So, to unlock a rear wheel it has to release a front wheel. The rears don't do much stopping, but the fronts do, so this is a disaster.

front only.

Upgrading the rears probably wouldn't do anything good for you, unless you could install a dual master cylinder system with a brake proportioning valve, along with custom ABS programming...in other words, a system that would cost more than the car is worth.

Stoptech has some great tech articles on these topics...see link.

Good luck!<ul><li><a href="http://www.stoptech.com/technical/">http://www.stoptech.com/technical/</a</li></ul>
