Hey all,

Anyone else have this problem. The wife and I are big time disappointed in this turn of events.........especially when it's raining. Problem never seems to surface when we're at the dealership (BRAMGATE in Brampton Ontario).

Furthermore, bad waterpump and leaking vacuum hose, scratched on rear quarter panel, dinged drivers side moulding......... and I had to pay close to $50K for all these extras !?!?!?

Regardless......... WE STILL LOVE THIS FRINKIN' CAR TO DEATH !!!! But if this carnage continues, the wife is going to demand that heads roll at Audi because of this kinda BS.

There are many bad potentiometer switches on A4 sunroofs. Mine was one of them. Your dealer should know exactly what it is. If not they pretend not to, tell 'em. Mine would fail to close, open whenever it wanted to, etc. Sorry to hear about your other problems. Mine's been very good in first 6 months, outside of the roof, of course.

The sunroof controls were redesigned for 1999.5, a step backwards in my opinion. If the sunroof gremlins persist (well documented in the archives), then there is no benefit whatsoever to the redesign. (Dealer: "But it's just like the Mercedes sunroof now.")

If you got it from the dealer that way then you should have the dealer replace and fix.

I also had the same problem with my sunroof (my car is a 99 and I've had it for 3 months). I also purchased my car from Bramgate and had it serviced there as well.

I simply made an appointment with the service department and described the problem with the sunroof (intermittently opens on its own, doesn't close entirely). They diagnosed the problem, and ordered in the appropriate parts. One week later, I brought the car back in and they replaced the sunroof motor and potentiometer. I haven't had any problems since (knock on wood).

While I had the car in for service, I also had them fix the squeeky armrest (as per the technical service bulletin) and a squeaky handle on the right passenger side above the door.

I was very happy with Bramgate's service.

Is Bramgate giving you trouble when you bring the car in? Will they not fix the problems you are experiencing?

Best of luck!

And tell them it isn't "just like a Mercedes", I should know, I rode in my friend's 99 E430 yesterday.
