What another car has does not affect me or the way I feel in any way. The D1 will still be a mega-land yacht and will cost significantly more than the S6. True, I believe the Brembos from the S8 should have been standard on the S6, but that is a different story. And soon, hopefully, at least my S6 will have those very same Brembos.

You can swing big reds for $2k with calipers, brackets, rotors, hats, lines, and pads... and it's widely considered the best s-car upgrade on the market. Nothing against the very similar Brembos, of course.

I really want all 4 done...is the Big Red Porsche brake setup for all 4 wheels or just the front...seems too cheap for all 4...if only for 2, can I also get the rears done, or is there some incompatibility problem...I know, I know, I'm an idiot when it comes to brakes!

You can really do anything you want, depending on how heavy a rear bias you want ... but in general, you'll want about 60% of your braking power to be in the front. Identical brakes on the front and rear would be more along the lines of 50/50... you'll have to determine exactly what you're after in your upgrade. General increase in stopping power? Elimination of fade? Do you plan any track use?

IMO, a similar percentage increase in caliper area and rotor surface area, while matching front and rear pad compounds, would be logical.

You might also use the same calipers on the front and rear, but use smaller diameter rotors on the rear... to maintain a balanced f/r bias. It's very common for the rear brakes to be almost ignored, but just upgraded with matching pad compounds... this does however, affect the brake bias, and more of the stopping power will be at the front wheels.

Best advice I could give? You're dealing with a $65k car, and if you plan to spend $2-$4k on a brake upgrade, find a skilled tuner who has experience in Audi braking systems (in particular one who has done upgrades of the HP2 calipers, say, on the S4, A6 2.7T, or 4.2), and knowledge of the various upgrade options available to you. Porsche, Brembo, Alcon, APR, AP Racing, and StopTech are the reputable suppliers of calipers. Coleman rotors are good for the street, and Brembo and Alcon are track ready.

Hope this helps, a bit.

I want mad stopping power and potential for some infrequent track use...all the while, admittedly I want it to look good doing it. I don't want to ignore the rears...I feel Audi has already done that. I do get the need or desire for a front bias, I'd like to accomplish that with monsters up front and slightly more modest in back. I readily admit, a decent amount of this desire is for both for the satisfaction of having it (unnecessarily excessive brakes and braking power) and the aesthetics of nice big red or black calipers and big drilled or slotted rotors. What better matches a gratuitously excessive station wagon than monster brakes? ;)
The stock brakes are acceptable for everyday driving, but then again, so is a stock A6 2.8 Avant...at least most of everyday driving...but I'm looking for a bit more power both going and stopping.

Thanks for the info...now I just hafta' figure out how to go about finding someone I can trust to get it right.

I appreciate the braking lessons and suggestions :)
