alright - I've got a 99.5 1.8TQMS w/ 7000 miles. I took it to the dealer today to address the squeaking coming from the wheel area as well as the driver's seat. The service manager and the technician said that they couldn't hear anything from either area, but they lubed the control arms and the seat just in case.
The squeak/creak coming from the wheel well is better, but not gone (only squeaks over large bumps).
SO - is this going to be a problem for the rest of my life or what? It sounds like a GD Chevette every time I go over a speed bump (yes, slowly). I checked the archives, but found no definitive answer as to whether this issue was addressed in the 99.5 model.
Anyone else having problems on a low mileage car?

I just came back from the dealer tonight with what sounds like the same problem. The right front wheel creaks big time "sometimes" when stopped and you just slightly crank the wheel left to right and back again. Last week they changed the lower ball joint, no help. In their defense they couldn't hear it when I brought it in. So it showed up again in 4 days later BAD. So I got a small tape recorder and taped the thing while my friend turned the wheel back and forth. It was awesome evidence. Anyhow tonight they could hear it slightly tonight and told me it was a problem with A4s and it was the front lower control arm. The guy was very candid and said it seems they go for 20k or so and start making racket. He also suggested I bring it back in before the warrantee is out so they can change the left one (they will be changing the right one next week). He said Audi knows its a problem and do not give them any trouble on the warrantee work.

I complained to my dealer about a squeak coming from the front suspension back in May (the last time I had the car serviced). The service department told me they couldn't hear anything and in their own defense, at least back then, you only heard it when driving over very rough pavement. I didn't think it was the control arm issue since I was under the impression that this was resolved starting with the 1998.5. Apparantly not. The dealer also told me they lubed the suspension components which did absolutely nothing.
The weather here went from cold to burning hot in weeks so I always had the windows closed since. For the last few days I've been driving with the windows open and I've noticed "squeak-squeak" every time the front suspension is under compression. It's gotten worse. I'm almost at the 15K mark so I was going to have the dealer look at it. I'm going to bring in the FAQ about the brakes too since I just can't stand it anymore. Actually the arm rest just started squeaking last week too. Yowza! Everything's hitting at once. They're going to be be busy. :/
Does anybody know if there is an FAQ about the control arms?

I have a 96 2.8 QM, at 50000 kms (30000 miles), I had the squeek problems. After the third visit, the dealer replaced the control arms/bushings.
Guess what, after about 4000 kms (2500 miles), back to the squeeking.

98 1.8T had the same drivers side at 17K. Fist they lubed then 2 days later it returned in full force. I had to basically show them where to look. Then they said oh yeah the control arm, we have that in stock! How often do you have control arms in stock? I had to wait three weeks for a MAP light! Seems like AUDI knew of premature control arm/bushing failures and stocked dealer shelves.
