I am due for my 45k service on my 96 2.8 and I was wondering what major stuff the dealer does besides the normal oil filter rotation etc. not just that but I also wanted some input on other things that I should get checked that people have had problems with without the dealer noticing them in the scheduled service. I bought this car used I its in great shape considering the age. I just want to make sure that the service doesnt overlook something major by doing just the text book stuff.

I think the best recommendation I received (but unfortunately ignored) was to find an independent mechanic and pay him for an hour or so of labor to check the car out. If he finds anything wrong, take it back to your dealer and insist that it be fixed.
My dealer told me that they'd go over the car with a fine-tooth comb at the 45K service. However, they didn't even fix the things I asked them to do, much less do a detailed inspection. I panicked with only 10 miles left on the warranty and took it to another dealer. They gave it a cursory inspection, but said everything was okay.
Good luck.
