"Audi has consolidated its position as market leader in the premium class in China. The Changchun-built Audi A6, which was specially modified for the requirements of the Chinese market, has increased vehicle sales by almost 80 percent."

How many of you know that Audi makes an A6 LWB in china? (LWB is Long wheel base). yup, these are the 'specially modified for the requirements' there. Not exactly know what it is officially called. It looks fabulous - very much like a TT with the stretched roof line. forgot how much it was lengthened - i think it was around 20cm. can you imagine your A6 stretched 20 cm? it looks cool!!! sadly, the engines are available only in those basic ones... you get a A6 1.8T or 2.4 or something. no 2.7T or 4.2 at all.

where else in the world can you find this? I think these are made in china and not exported. not even to Hong Kong.

I'm Chinese, born in HK and raised in LA, CA. At 5'8", I'm "The Tall One" in the family. Why do the Chinese need a long wheel base A6?!?! :)

well, a mini-limo. like you said, most asians are not that tall and a stretched A6 is very much limo-like already without the excessive $$$ for BMW or MB to bring in their L7's and pullmans.

also, you might want to consider that those who can afford cars in china are pretty well off (compare to the 99.9% of the 10 billion people there), and are most 'european' cars are driven by chauffeurs (cheap labour) anyways. (aside from VW taxi's).

keep in mind, L7's and S600 pullmans are not official imports to China and are only grey market imports. Audi, on the other hand, has a plant in china and their A6 LWB is seen as a TOTL item there but reasonably priced. no A8's in china, i think. of course, they don't know how to build it there and a stretched A6 is an easy solution to many marketing stretgies.

May be you can ask Audi why we just get an S6 Avant in the states. Same sort of backwards marketing plans that is understood by audi.

The LWB A6 is often used by the Chinese government and military leaders as official cars, mainly because (as S1 says) they are made there so there's no buying in from capitalist countries required. I think they fit some of the XP (executive protection - MS borrowed the term!) features to a great deal of them.

Of course, the export A6's are all regular models.

I was in Beijing and also smack in the middle of China to see some people, there are lots of Passats and Audis! The Passats are longer than the rest of the world (rear doors by approx. 5 to 8 inches?) and current A6's are plenty, no Quattros, 2.4 mainly, also 1.8's.
Funny thing, they still build the OLD 100 under a Chinese name (don't ask me, couldn't figure it out), both SWB and LWB. And they are all black!
I had an last generation A6 w/driver who took me from one place to the airport (Henan province), abs. BEAUTIFUL highway, like German Autobahn, very little traffic, average speed more than 100 mph. Also, a lot of S-class DB's, rest of the mototring world there is small jap cars and the french Citroen Xantia (taxis in Beijing).
Audi/VW are abs. #1 there....
