Hiya,

Is it true that the CHP, police, etc., have a new radar unit (I think the name is Stalker) that can track a car's speed whether the Officer is stationary, moving (which includes him/her heading towards you while you head towards them), in-front of or behind you and in general at any angle?

Thanks for the help.

Yes it is true but nothing new. Stationary radar are usually the handheld units. Moving radar is usually in the car and can calculate the speed of vehicles either approaching or moving away from the patrol car.

as the angle moves away from head or tail on, the measured speed will decrease from actual. At 90 degrees (from side), measured speed will be 0.

they will still write you the ticket for the displayed speed though, you just get a "cosine" discount.

here in San Antonio. Although some guys do have the older MPH's and Trooper's. In answer to your question which looks like has already been answered, yes, the Stalker does incorporate moving radar. Does not matter which way the officer is travelling in relation to you (as far as facing or going away from). On traffic, we don't use hand helds (except for motor officers), the Stalker is also a stationary unit, which is personally how I use it most as there's a cement barrier in the middle of the hwy I work.
email me if you've further questions.
