I dropped of my A6 Avant press car today, gave the keys to the receptionist and hopped into my A4 (which had been sitting at Audi Canada headquaters for the past 2 weeks). Wow! What a difference between the two cars. Putting aside all of the differences between a '97 and '99 model, there is just a huge difference in size and driving style for the two cars.
The A4 is so much more the "drivers" car than the A6. It feels intimate and responsive. It feels a heck of a lot smaller too (obviously -- it is!) The A6, though, was a great highway cruiser. At pretty much any speed that thing felt like it was floating on a cloud.
The moral? Well if you want refined luxury and highway driveability then the A6 could be for you. But if you want to really experience the drive, then you'll be much better off in an A4. I am happy to say that they both still were very Audi-esque. Now if/when I get my S4 then I can make the same A4 / S4 comparison. Anybody wanna bet that it will be another night and day comparison?
