View Full Version : Yahoo! 99 1.8QT5spd(APR) vs 93 Eclipse GSX 5spd with boost controller.(1.8T rmz 08-09-1999, 05:15 PM rmz 08-09-1999, 05:25 PM Ok, had a long empty road.. I was following a 93 Eclipse GSX 5spd and He nailed it while making a right.. I followed suit, since he hit it 1st I was about 1.5 cars back holding that distance until 3rd. My A4 was starting to creeping up on him pretty quickly. By 4th I was tied with him, and starting to pull ahead, then the light turned red. So we are about to go off the line. Light goes green 4500-4900 rpm launch.. Both of us dead even. (All wheel drive rocks on both cars!!) 1st tied. 2nd tied. 3rd A4 starting walking! 4th pretty much over... I was very surprised considering all I have is the APR chip and the K&N filter. Oh yeah. Trip computer temp was reading 99-100. We spoke a bit and he said he had a boost controller. I could hear his turbo so I am thinking he may have had a air filter as well.. Awsome! I thought I was going to loose considering weight, he had 195 hp to start with before he jacked up the boost. My A4 surprised the heck out of me.. from 60-100 the A4 had more juice. Oh well see ya'll it's miller time. hahahaha Ruben 08-09-1999, 05:34 PM I'm not sure how much, but I believe it's heavier than our cars even though it don't look it. Edmund L 08-09-1999, 06:01 PM We were both going around 80 when i saw him start to pull even with me (i was passing him slowly before), so i went ahead and rolled on the throttle all the way to wide open, then around 95 when i noticed we were still even i downshifted to 4th, by the time i hit 110 he couldn't keep up anymore, i pulled right by him no problem....by about 120 he pretty far behind me. I had two passengers in the car and my sub box, so my car was quite heavy....i suspect the GSX has gearing optimized for 0-60, wheras the A4 has better gears for top end, like most german cars.... In addition, my friend was in the other lane in his Maxima, he blew by the poor guy in the GSX as well at the same time. Pobrecito! =) Edmund Louie 98 A4Q 30V

My A4

Jason C 08-09-1999, 06:07 PM nt Dennis 08-09-1999, 07:18 PM The gearing in the DSM's do seem to be tailored for 0-60 and the cars seem to run out of steam a bit after that. In a stock DSM, 1st gear goes by really fast, second gear pretty fast, third and up are yawners. As far as mods go though, on a dollar vs. dollar basis, the DSM's would kill the A4. Comparing the two is like comparing apples to oranges though. My current Talon is one of the most fun to drive cars I've ever experienced. A few suspension mods really does wonders. I'm at the point though where the little things are starting to bother me and it's time to move up. I'd still highly recommend an AWD Talon or GSX to anyone though. '90 AWD Talon - now sold '93 AWD Talon - close to 300 hp (for sale soon) '98 A4 2.8QM '00 S4 Nogaro Blue - arriving ??? jasyn 08-09-1999, 09:41 PM http://carpoint.msn.com/vip/Used/Mitsubishi/Eclipse

mitsu 93 gsx

Mike L 08-11-1999, 10:09 AM I currently own a '99.5 A4TQMS with TAP chip and Janex filter.. I've owned a '95 Eclipse GSX with mods up to about 275HP and I feel the A4 is no where near the Eclipse in acceleration. I do notice however that the top end does feel slightly better in the A4. An Eclipse/DSM will win almost every time unless A) there is something wrong with the DSM or B) there is something wrong with the DSM driver C) Your A4 has more than just a chip and filter :) --mike |
