That is how my day has gone, Audi wise... =)

Here's some background info on the day: I had an appointment to have my F&R brakes upgraded... but the front rotors never came. (ARGH) Ok, I'll have to have them done once I get them.

So, I got back here hoping that the rotors would arrive by UPS, since they were suppose to ship Monday. Called the company, and they said that they hadn't shipped. Another major rant to them (I ordered them two weeks ago) and then I cancelled the order. Try finding slotted rotors for a '96 A6... near impossible... Only two sources on the planet!!

So I called the only other source... Euro Brake Tech in Hartford. (Of course, kicking myself for not ordering from them in the first place!) Got talking, and they have a set of Zimmermann rotors in stock. Hmmm, not Brembo like I had planned but a 20-minute conversation with them later, and I was convinced. Give me the Zimmermanns! "Can you make that 10 slots instead of 5?" Sure! Great! They can cut them Monday and have them to me in time for next Thursday's appointment!

Now I'm excited... they then ask if I have pads... yes, I do, Ferodo pads. "Too bad, because we've got some great pads"... and before you read on, yes I got sold something but I am pretty sure it will turn out good! =) They have Rofren pads... hmm the same pads that (they claim) TAP sells/uses. "Dustless, squeakless, awesome stopping power, no fade... easy on the rotors... 18 ingredients in these pads, they look and feel like a $400 pad, same pad for street or race use... approved by Ferrari..." I was thinking man, how much?? Since I had paid $80 or $100 for the Ferodo pads (which weren't being installed, BTW, because I didn't have the front rotors) I figured these would be something like $200-$300/set... and out of my range for this upgrade. Nope... $120 (list)... no way! Ok, I can slap the Ferodos on the 100CS if I need to justify the cost of them. So, I ordered the Rofren pads along with the slotted Zimmermann rotors. And to make it sweeter, I got the set at just a crazy price... like half of list, or something. ;) I didn't deserve such a great discount since I was in such a desperate state to get whatever slotted rotors I could find!! =) But they seem like great people at EBT. They'll even custom slot or drill the rotors to your design. They also do slotting and drilling... curved, straight, patterns, etc. Sounds very cool, and they're doing mine as I requested! I asked about pads for the 2.7TT and 4.2... they didn't have anything in their parts books past the '99 models but they were 99% sure that the 2.7TT and 4.2 take the same pad as I'm getting... I told them that the brakes were probably bigger. He said he would ask around and find out for sure. Great, you guys might have a really good option out there. He insists that these are the best pads on the market for the money, and couldn't say enough about how he hates the German pad dust, and that these don't dust AT ALL. He gave me probably 10 examples of cars they've thrown these pads on without rotor turning, replacing, or upgrading, and didn't have any squeaking or fading or dusting. For the price, I don't know how I can go wrong.

Then, I called my shop to make sure they weren't putting the front pads on... since I want to put the Rofren pads on. Ok, good, they aren't! So what about those dash lights? They said, "you know how there is a knob on the instrument cluster...." I knew right then and started laughing. "You had your dash lights dimmed!" Oh, man... talk about embarrassment. After two years with the 100/A6's, I don't even know that the dash lights are adjustable!!! And when I adjusted them (while changing the clock, which is controlled by the same knob, du'hyuck) I didn't even know it! But I'd rather be embarrassed than facing an electrical repair!

So while I expected to be reporting with my impressions of the upgraded brakes today, I probably won't have a ton to say since I am only having the rears done today. But next Friday, I'll know... and hopefully I'll be reporting an even better upgrade thanks to these wonder pads! =)

Have to go pick up the car now...
