Can the homelink visor be added to a 2001 A6 that came without it? If so is the plug already there and hot? What is the cost of the part? I am tall and did not want the sunroof but would like to add this. Having a V1 is clutter enough.

It's pretty cumbersome. Much larger than in other makes of cars. Frankly, I'm not impressed with its range on my garage door.

You might try the smaller key-fob size jobs from Griots, or handytouch.com.

FWIW, my range is great. Better than any other transmitter I've owned.

After your comment about the range you drove me away. I liked the handy-touch. However, where is the cigarette lighter in the A6? Is it inside the ash tray and if so will it still close? If anyone has used the handy-touch give me some feedback.
JB from FL

I was wondering what the differences in cost and wiring there would be in an A6 where it could have been a option. That FAQ focused on an A4 prior to the homelink option being available where there was obviously not the correct plug.
JB from FL

...the Griots Garage remotes. Homelink is nice, but the range is poor. I would not add it to a car that didn't have it.

installed in my 99.5 A4. However, I have yet to figure out how to power it.

You can buy a visor from Clair Parts they run about $360 (an expensive clicker!)

You will discover that the original visor will have one lead which is identical to one of two connectors on the homelink visor. The trick is,
finding a ready source of power.

Some say that the required plug may be folded back and hidden in the A pillar running up the side of the windshield.

Removing the cover from the A pilar gives you two possibilities 1) the plug will be there or 2) an simple place to tap a line for power.

I'd be curious to hear from anyone who has pulled the cover off an 99.5 A4 A pilar. Maybe that information would motivate me to pull it.
