Finally took the plunge, ordered a 2001 2.7T (silver/onyx) with sport package and loaded except for phone, CD changer, GPS and rear airbags. This forum was invaluable in answering many of my pre-sales questions and concerns, thanks to all. Hoping for late August deliveries. (Preferably car before baby!!)

Heh, yeah you never know when you'll need two turbos to get you to the maternity ward FAST :-)

Congrats<p><img src=http://www.vizsoft.com/~oliver/A6spin.gif

But I'm looking forward to those cool steering mounted rocker controls.

I thought only sports package equipped A4's and S4's with tiptronics come with steering wheel tiptronic rocker controls.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/larryescortsig.jpg">

My dealer informed me a while back that this would be coming for 2001 model year on the A6's. The MY2001 A6 2.7T order sheet I have (dated effective March 3, 2000) also confirms this:

PPX Premium Package - Xenon headlights, Auto dimming inside/outside mirrors, Multi-function steering wheel w/Tiptronic.

I felt they would be a plus until the child was old enough to be out of car seats, at which time I'd have them de-activated.

Just my $.02...Oh, BTW, I used both Turbos heavily on the way to the maternity ward :)

A6: 2/00, Baby Boy: 5/00 ;)<p>Richard

I was advised against these as they could possibly injur a child leaning/sleeping against the seat/door area as they will tend to do when tired or on long trips. IMHO, current gen airbags are great for adults when used properly, but can often do more harm then good to children. (I've been in a car where dual front airbags blew in a minor accident, and I certainly wouldn't wanted to have been leaning against one of them! As it is my forearms suffered very minor burns by the detonation of the airbag in the steering wheel.) I think a child buckled into the back seat properly is as safe as can be in most all accident situations.

Agreed, (see my thread above), I guess for some reason I assumed this was your first child, so s/he would be in a carseat for several years and thus benefit from the airbags. My bad.

Enjoy your new babies!<p>Richard

It is our first but I plan to keep the car for at least 7 or 8 years. Dealer said they could be enabled/disabled but at 1.5 hrs and many $ it seemed like too much of a hassle.

Hope I don't need those turbo's to get to the hospital after all!!
