View Full Version : Is periodically disconnecting the battery to restore power only required for chipped cars? harinder 05-16-2000, 06:58 AM Jack Orr 05-16-2000, 07:11 AM Do what? Me thinks you need to post more info. harinder 05-16-2000, 07:32 AM I'm talking about the loss of power symptom (not the tbb issue). I recall someone (maybe Ben) posting a procedure that required disconnecting the battery for 20 seconds and about 10 other steps which brought back power. Bollinger 05-16-2000, 09:31 AM The reason chipped cars need to be disconnected once in a while is because the people who makes the chips aren't especially good at what they do. So, they jack up some parameters to raise performance. Well, they didn't catch everything they need to change, because the engine management detects something is going wrong, and backs off. It then remembers to stay backed off so it doesn't operate out of parameters. Disconnecting the battery makes it lose this memory and so it goes back to the original operation. Eventually, somebody will make a chip which doesn't do this. Or else they will reduce the power output so it isn't causing these problems.
